Project planning

A useful year-end list for unfinished healthcare technology work

An unfinished technology project does not always need another status meeting.

An unfinished technology project does not always need another status meeting. It often needs a shorter, more specific list of decisions. Before carrying work into a new planning period, separate physical installation tasks from questions that only a facility or department owner can answer.

Sort work by what is missing

Describe each open item in terms someone can verify. Replace “room not ready” with the missing outlet, unavailable access approval or unresolved equipment position. Record the next decision, the person who can make it and the date it is needed. This makes the list useful to people who were not at the original walkthrough.

Keep completed work visible

Leave a brief record of what has already been accepted so that the next team does not repeat it. Attach the relevant drawing, delivery record or approved checklist to the item rather than sending a folder with unexplained filenames. If priorities change, record which work is being paused and what needs to be checked before it resumes. A paused task should never look like a finished one.

Practical takeaway

Carry forward decisions and evidence, not just a percentage complete. Review the first three blocked items with the people who can release them.
