Give cable test reports a usable handoff

A folder of test reports is not yet a useful cabling record.

A folder of test reports is not yet a useful cabling record. The support team needs to connect each report to the installed link and understand which exceptions remain open. Plan the report package before the testing work begins.

Agree on identifiers and file structure

Use the same link labels in the drawings, outlet schedule and reports. Have the qualified cabling team identify the applicable test method and acceptance requirements for the scope. Agree how files will be named and delivered. Preserve the original test records rather than replacing them with a summary that hides which links were checked.

Reconcile reports against installed work

Compare the final schedule with the report list to identify missing entries, duplicate labels or unresolved results. Ask the responsible technical reviewer to address acceptance questions. Keep retest records connected to the original issue so the reason for the later result remains clear. Provide an index that lets a future reader move from a room or outlet to its supporting report without opening every file. Confirm that the receiving team can open the delivered file formats.

Practical takeaway

Accept the index and the underlying reports together. A readable link between labels, locations and results is the useful deliverable.
