Review dependencies before adding another clinical workstation

An extra workstation can look like a small hardware request while depending on application capacity, approved access, network readiness and room layout.

An extra workstation can look like a small hardware request while depending on application capacity, approved access, network readiness and room layout. Reviewing those dependencies early makes the request easier to scope and avoids treating installation as the only task.

Describe the intended role

Ask the department and application owner what the workstation will support and where it will be used. Have the responsible teams review hardware, software licensing, connection and access requirements. Keep the proposed location and any peripherals in the same request. Do not assume that an existing nearby workstation establishes approval for another identical setup.

Create a complete work package

Identify who supplies each component and who owns configuration, validation and user preparation. Record any decision still required before ordering or scheduling. If the request changes from a fixed desk to a mobile cart, reopen the affected requirements. At handoff, provide the accepted configuration reference and support route. This gives the department a defined addition to its environment rather than a computer whose remaining responsibilities are unclear.

Practical takeaway

Review the new workstation as a complete supported setup. Hardware, access, application requirements and room readiness need named owners.
